CFP: ICLA-Volume on Modernism (abstracts 3/15/2001)

    MODERNISM

A volume in the International Comparative Literature Association (ICLA) series

Comparative History of Literatures in European Languages (CHLEL)

The ICLA Coordinating Committee of the series Comparative History of
Literatures in European Languages has approved our project of a volume on
modernism. We invite you to suggest a contribution to the volume together with
a one-page abstract to be sent to one of us before March 15, 2001 (via e-mail,
fax, or regular mail; see our addresses below). The expected deadline for
contributors to submit their work will be March 2002. We expect to complete
our copy-editing of the chapters by November 2002. The volume draft will be
read by outside experts appointed by the Coordinating Committee. After
implementing improvements suggested by the readers, we anticipate consigning
the volume to CHLEL's publisher, John Benjamins (Amsterdam and Philadelphia),
    in early summer 2003.
The language of the volume will be English. The expected length of each
article is 25-30 double spaced pages (including bibliography). For the sake of
flexibility, the editors will in certain cases allow for shorter or somewhat
longer papers. The volume on modernism will be a forum of new readings,
exploring the dynamics at work in modernist aesthetics and texts, capturing
the current conceptual framework relevant for modernist studies, as well as
participating in reshaping our understanding of modernism as we take it with
us into a new century. We hope you will be interested in participating in this
project. Also, please bring this project to the attention of scholars who you
believe could contribute to this work in a significant way.
