Studies, 1-4 November 2001, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

"The Place of Theory in Medicine and other Practical Arts"

This panel proposes to examine the place of theory in disciplines with a
significant practical component (e.g., medicine, the visual arts) and
the various manual pursuits or crafts which were elevated in status
during the 18th century (e.g., horticulture). Of particular interest is
the manner in which the relationship between theory and practice in
these arts is conceived by their practitioners.

Please send paper proposals by April 15th via email to
herrlej@qsilver.queensu.ca, by fax (613) 533-6298 or by mail to Jeanette
Herrle-Fanning, Dept. Of History, Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario,
    CANADA K7L 3N6.
