    CALL FOR PAPERS

A panel to be proposed for the third annual meeting of the Modernist Studies
Association, October 12-15, 2001, Rice University, Houston, TX.

    THEORIZING THE HOME FRONT

Past studies of home front writing during the Great War have admirably
chronicled the phenomenon while generally ignoring the particular conditions
of production that helped create it. We’re looking for papers that examine
home front writing through one of a variety of theoretical lenses, for
    example:

                    --as historiography or autobiography
--as manifestations of a gendered public sphere
                    --in relation to narrative theory
--as responses to the construction of "the home front" as a theater of war
                    --as an epistemological framework

Papers that deal with more than a single work will be especially welcome.

Please send 250-word abstracts with vitae by March 15, 2001 to either

Debra Rae Cohen or Michelle N. Mimlitsch
