    Proposals are solicited for the Gothic in literature and other genres
    session at the annual conference of the Pacific Ancient and Modern
    Language Association (the west coast regional MLA). The conference takes
    place Nov. 9-11, 2001 at Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, CA. Those
    interested should send 500-word proposals to Robert Michalski by March 21.

    While abstracts on all aspects of the Gothic from the eighteenth century
    to the present will be considered, of particular interest will be papers
    that deal with the social, anthropological, or politcal aspects of the
    Gothic. Submissions may be on such topics as Social Darwinism and the
    Gothic, conspiracies or secret societies and the Gothic, the Gothic in
    film, marginalized racial or social groups and the Gothic, Gothic
    authority and subversion, Gothic music, Gothic subcultures.
