CFP - Update: Journal of Cultural Studies

    Dear Colleague,

We write to encourage your participation in the next issue of the JOURNAL
OF CULTURAL STUDIES. JCS is a new, refereed journal based in Nigeria that
made its first and second appearances in the third quarters of 1999 and
2000 respectively, and we are already working towards two issues for this
year [third issue currently in press].

We have extended the deadline and invite submissions for:

Vol. 3, No. 2 - MASS CULTURE IN AFRICA.

    Possible themes are:
-Theoretical Currents of Mass Culture in Africa
-The Evolution of Mass Society in Africa
    -The Culture Industry in Africa
-Mass Culture and the Democratisation Project
    -Mass Culture and Totalitarian Society
-Mass Culture and the Praxis of Economic Development
    -The Dialectics of Cultural Pluralism
    -Gender Dimensions in Mass Culture
-Africa in the Global Cultural Marketplace
    -Mass Culture and Regional Integration

Deadline for submissions: 30 April 2001
    Publication date: July 2001.

We wish that contributors would be quite incisive in delineating
theoretical and practical implications of their studies. Though our focus
is on Africa, we would welcome contributions which explore any of the
themes in the context of some comparison with Africa. We would also publish
some other studies, which do not necessarily focus on Africa but are
relevant to the continent's contemporary experiences.

Submissions from young but promising scholars are encouraged. We would be
particularly pleased to receive more manuscripts from outside Nigeria. Each
paper should normally not exceed 25 A4 pages, typed double-spaced and in
three copies, a diskette copy (MS-Dos compatible)inclusive. The
bibliography should list all the works cited in the order of author, date,
title, place of publication, and publisher. An abstract of between 150 and
200 words and a cover page, which indicates the full name and brief
bio-data of the author should accompany each submission. The cover page
should be typed separately from the manuscript, which will be sent out,
    under anonymity, to assessors.

Papers submitted to the Journal should be original both in content and in
    terms of consideration for
publication. Papers under consideration by any other publication may not be
submitted to the Journal. The editors also welcome review articles, book
and film reviews, and original creative writings. Each contributor is
entitled to 10 offprints of his or her article and a copy of the issue in
    which the article appears.

All submissions should be sent to:

    Journal of Cultural Studies,
    c/o Department of English,
    Ogun State University,
    P.M.B. 2002,

    Yours sincerely,
    Udu Joseph Yakubu
