Call for Papers: Post-Community Theory and Literature
    Midwest Modern Language Association
    Cleveland, Ohio
    November 1-3, 2001

Even the most minimal determinations of human being continue to be
troublesome to the extent that they institute human being as a universal
category, and thus subject to politics and the politics of
representation. This panel questions essential representations of
humanity at the level of the subject. Possible paper topics include but
are not limited to the intersection of recent post-community theory
(Nancy, Agamben, Derrida, Lingis, Anderson) and literature (of whatever
period), the influence of post-community theory on "rights" discourses,
the significance of Lacanian psychoanalysis for the thinking of
community, the challenge of post-community theory for the social
sciences. Also welcome are papers that treat film, popular culture,
music, etc. at the limits of representation. Particularly welcome are
those papers that seek to read texts in the name of a coming community.
Please send proposals (250 words) by March 30 to Tim Deines
    <deinesti@msu.edu>.
