    NOVEMBER 15-18, 2001
    "A SPACE ODYSSEY"

    TOPIC: We are proposing a panel of 5 people on the topic: Theatrical
    Spaces: Staging Windows and Doors.

    We invite papers that examine the literal staging or metaphorical use of
    windows and/or doors in early modern and restoration drama. 'Windows'
    is understood to include the use of the upper stage, balcony, or
    terrace; and 'Doors' includes explicit stage directions referring to
    stage doors or traps. Possible scenes for discussion might include the
    sewer scene or the advertisement scene in _The Rover_; the window
    seduction scene in _Ram Alley_ or _The Devil is an Ass_; or the closet
    scenes in _Epicoene, or the Silent Woman_. Papers need not depend on
    performance theory to explore this staging issue.
