    Call for Papers:

    Chaos, Complexity, and Modernist Histories
    How might contemporary scientific theories of chaos and complexity enable us
    to understand modernist strategies for writing about the past? How might
    chaos or complexity theory provide new analytical frameworks for
    understanding contemporary constructions of "modernism" and "postmodernism"
    as distinct fields?

    Papers analyzing history in modernist texts and/or histories of modernism
    through the lens of chaos/complexity theory are welcomed for a proposed
    panel at the New Modernisms III Conference, October 12-16, 2001, Rice
    University, Houston, TX.

    Please send 250 word proposals by April 20 to:
