CDE Conference 2002
"Global Challenges and Regional Responses
in Contemporary Drama in English"
11th Annual Conference of the
German Society for Contemporary Theatre and Drama in English
at Würzburg, Germany
May 9-12, 2002
The German Society for Contemporary Theatre and Drama in English
(Homepage: http://fb14.uni-mainz.de/projects/cde) announces its
Eleventh Annual Conference (May 9-12, 2002), which will be organized
by the Chair of American Studies at Würzburg University and held at
Burg Rothenfels. We celebrate 600 years of Würzburg University and 10
years of CDE.
Call for papers:
We invite papers on all aspects of the conference topic, including:
universalism, Americani-zation, consumerism, cosmopolitanism, the
global village, media culture, provincialism, re-gional confinement,
u- or dystopian spaces, escapism, nature as a counterforce to
globaliza-tion, the dialectics of the global and the specific. These,
and other, aspects of globalization and regionalization, inform
contemporary drama in English both on the thematic and the structural
level. Therefore, the conference topic allows for the assessment of
contemporary drama as a flexible medium as well as a forum for debate.
Abstracts:
If you propose to give a paper (in English, not exceeding 20 minutes),
please submit your title and an abstract of about 200 words,
accompanied by a biographical sketch.
In addition to the presentations of regular papers, we would like to
experiment with two additional forms of interactional discussion: a
Forum on Work in Progress (particularly addressed to postgraduates)
and a Workshop on Teaching Contemporary Drama in English. If you are
interested in contributing to either one of these workshops
(statements should not exceed 10 minutes in length), please submit a
title, a short abstract of your statement and a biographical sketch.
