    American Women Writers of Color Conference

    October 19-21, 2001, Carousel Hotel, Ocean City, MD

                                                Call for Papers

    Looking Backward, Looking Forward: American Women Writers of Color in the
    21st Century

    Scholarship on: African American, Asian American, Hispanic/Latina and
    Native American Women Writers in the U.S.

    Plenary Session featuring:
    Mary Helen Washington, specialist in African American Literature
                        University of Maryland, College Park
    Eliana Rivero, specialist in U.S. Latina Literature
                        University of Arizona
    and other scholars

    We invite individual, panel and round table submissions that reassess the
    literature by and scholarship on American women writers of color, or
    papers that focus on the new directions this literature/scholarship may
    take in the 21st century.

                                                  Novels, Short Fiction,
                                               Memoirs, Autobiography
      Dramas, Performance Artists, Emerging and Established Theater Groups
                                                 Storytelling & Poetry
                        Literary and Critical Theory: Women Theorists of Color
                                 Cinema & Video: Films by Women of Color
                        
    In addition to those listed above, we especially welcome panels or papers
    that (1) treat the work of American women writers of color from a
    transnational or post-colonial perspective, (2) focus upon the
    intersections of race, class, sexuality, and/or gender, (3) or approach
    this work from a womanist or mujerista perspective.
