The first issue of AGORA is scheduled for Fall 2001. Submissions intended
for this issue should be received prior to August 15, 2001. General
submissions are accepted at any time during the year.

AGORA is a refereed electronic journal disseminating graduate scholarship in
hypertext format. Implicit in the journal name, and forming the journal
focus, is a public forum of debate and dialogue that addresses issues of
critical scholarship in the literary arts. Other significant issues include
public space, the nature of communication, and humanistic studies as they
relate to the academic and general community. Please note that the journal
enthusiastically welcomes the inclusion of relevant multimedia materials or
papers that take advantage of the hypertext medium. AGORA accepts
submissions from graduate students and new scholars. All submissions should
be significant to their particular field and of scholarly interest. All
submissions will be subject to a double-blind review process. While the
bold, daring and off-topic are welcome, critical and stylistic clarity are
    of the utmost importance.

AGORA is based in the Department of English at the University of Alberta,
but has a broadly international board of Advisory Editors. Just as the
journal seeks to bring together scholars from distinct backgrounds and
disparate communities around the globe, we are seeking scholarship that
unites differing fields, critical perspectives and aesthetic materials. The
journal has an ISSN, will be registered with standard bibliographies, such
the MLA, and is a member of ICAAP.

Manuscripts, with a 200-250 word abstract, are accepted in either hard-copy
or electronic format, although accepted papers must be submitted in
electronic format and in accordance with MLA citation guidelines. The author
’s name should not appear on the manuscript, but on a separate coversheet
(or in the body of the email) stating name, mailing address, email address
and the title of the paper.

Electronic submissions should be sent to: <agora@mail.arts.ualberta.ca> with
the subject heading "Submission." We can currently accept documents in
ASCII, WordPerfect, HTML, Rich Text, plain text and Microsoft Word formats.
For paper submissions, two hard-copies may be sent to:

         AGORA
         Department of English
         3-5 Humanities Centre
         University of Alberta
         Edmonton, Alberta
         CANADA, T6G 2E5

Hard-copy submissions cannot be returned and accepted papers must be
resubmitted in an electronic copy, either via email or a 3.5 diskette in
regular mail. If you are submitting electronically, it is not necessary to
send a duplicate hardcopy. Again, the journal supports the inclusion of
relevant multimedia materials. Images and photographs are accepted in either
.gif or .jpg format and audio files in RealAudio (.ram or .ra), Midi (.mid),
or wavefile (.wav) format. These must be included with the submission of the
electronic copy. All contributors should specify the applicable copyright
restrictions if multimedia material is not strictly the copyright of the
author or in the public domain. Materials that the author does not hold
copyright to, are not in the public domain, or that do not fall under fair
use must be accompanied by a hardcopy form stating release of copyright.
