III INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CHICANO LITERATURE

22 23 24 May 2002

Universidad de Malaga (Espana) Departamento de Filologia Inglesa, Francesa
y Alemana

University of California - Santa Barbara (USA) Chicano Studies Department

University of California - Irvine (USA) Chicano and Latino Studies Program

The third venue in Spain, after Granada and Vitoria, for an
international conference on Chicano Literature is the University of
Malaga where, once again, scholars and artists will be able to meet and
discuss the multiple manifestations of Chicano culture. Although the
conference title indicates a predominant interest in literature, papers
and panel suggestions in which other cultural activities are considered
will be very welcome.

As areas of study we offer the following options: : border theory; drama
and performance; popular culture; gender theory; mitos; history;
sociology; folklore; poetry; fiction; film; television; immigration;
ethnic stereotyping and/or works on specific authors.

Papers in Spanish and English will be accepted.

Those wishing to make a proposal, please send a 300 word abstract in RTF
format if you are using electronic mail, before 31 January 2002 to:

The Conference will be held at the Malaga Casa Diocesana de
Espiritualidad. This institution also offers full board accommodation at
reasonable prices. Please choose among the different options:

1. Full board accommodation and conference fees (arrival in the evening
of May 21 and departure on Saturday 25): 210 =E2=82=AC (35.000 pesetas)

2. Accompanying persons (room, board and social activities): 150
=E2=82=AC (25.000 pesetas)

3. Conference fees plus meals: 120 =E2=82=AC (20.000 pesetas)

4. Students (this fee does not include meals nor accommodation): 30
=E2=82=AC (5.000 pesetas)

5. Students including meals and accommodation: 150 =E2=82=AC (25.000
pesetas)

PLEASE NOTE

1. Fees paid after 15 April 2002 will be increased by 10%

2. Students who receive a salary from the organising institutions do not
qualify for the student fee.

3. The amount of the different price options is fixed and will not vary
under any circumstances. There will be no reduced rates for missed meals
or shorter stays.
