    CALL FOR ABSTRACTS/PROPOSALS

     
    30th Annual Conference

    April 4-6, 2002

    Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

     
    Transborder/Transcultural Perspectives and
    Race, Ethnicity, Class, Gender, and Sexuality

    The National Association for Ethnic Studies invites abstracts/proposals for
    papers, panels, workshops, or media productions from scholars, teachers,
    students, and other community members in all disciplines and
    interdisciplinary areas, including the arts, business, education,
    humanities, law, sciences, and social sciences.

    The conference will create a lively forum for the discussion of issues
    related to race and ethnicity, including, but not limited to, the following:

    * transnational/transcultural issues
    * sexual identity and ethnicity
    * beyond the black/white dichotomy
    * new paradigms on race, class and gender
    * bio-regionalism
    * environmental racism
    * indigenous/first peoples
    * the changing Diaspora
    * current global issues
    * Census 2000 and its implications
    * tribal and First Peoples' sovereignty
    * immigration/migration issues
    * hate groups
    * white identity

    One-full-page, or 250-word, abstracts/proposals should be submitted by
    October 10, 2001, and preferably should relate to any aspect of the theme.
    The abstract/proposal must indicate the participantıs institutional
    affiliation and mailing address, telephone and fax number, and e-mail
    address. The abstract/proposal must indicate whether the presentation is an
    individual paper or a complete panel presentation, and whether audio-visual
    equipment is required. Limited equipment is available only if requested at
    the time of the submission of a proposal or abstract. Presenters will be
    responsible for making their own arrangements directly with the hotel at
    their own expense for A/V requests made after the October 10, 2001 deadline.
    Complete panel proposals must include one-page abstracts for each presenter.

    Conference registration fees and NAES membership dues for 2002 are due upon
    acceptance of abstract. All program participants, whether presenting or not,
    must pay full conference registration and 2002 NAES membership dues.
