Popular Western Fiction
and
Westerns from Hollywood
An Area for the
MEXICO MEETING OF PCA/ACA
5th ANNUAL MEETING, CONGRESS OF THE AMERICAS:
October 17 - October 21, 2001
Topics might include B.M. Bower, Zane Grey, Louis L'Amour, Max Brand,
Clarence Mulford, Pulp Westerns, John Ford, Clint Eastwood, Feminist,
Structuralist and other new critical perspectives on Westerns, in
English or Spanish.
As its title indicates, this is the fifth congress to be held at the
Universidad de las Americas (UDLA) and the meetings are more varied and
interesting each time; the last meeting featured some 1000 speakers from
all over the globe on political, economic, literary, cinematic topics.
Receptions, banquets, luncheons are all included in the registration
fee. Like all popular culture meetings, this one is friendly and
supportive. The local people of Puebla are friendly and
like the American visitors, so bring the family.
Travel is easy. Fly to Mexico City and take a luxurious bus (with
stewardess and free fruit drinks) to Puebla. (The bus leaves from some
50' from the Customs clearance area and student guides will be
provided.) Or fly directly to Puebla.
Proposals should include a one-page abstract and should be sent by 30
