    CALL FOR PAPERS--Kalamazoo 2002
    Re-Entering the Theatre of Devotion: Dramatic Culture
    and Cultural Drama in Late Medieval East Anglia

    This session at Kalamazoo invites papers exploring dramatic aspects of the
    culture of fifteenth- and sixteenth- century East Anglia.

    Possible topics:
    --Relationships between theatre and social practice in late medieval East
    Anglia
    --Religious or cultural practice as social drama (e.g. anchors,
    hermits, pilgrimages, dress, fasting, devotion to Mary)
    --Relationships between art and drama in East Anglia
    --East Anglian art and spirituality, especially as they relate to what
    Gail Gibson has termed the "incarnational aesthetic" of East Anglia
    --dramatic records or manuscripts and what they tell us about East
    Anglian culture

    Presented papers should take no more than twenty minutes reading time.

    N.B. Presenters must have their papers finished at least three weeks before
    the conference at Kalamazoo so that the papers can be forwarded to Dr.
    Gibson, who will act as a respondent at the session.
