Critical Perspectives on Wong Kar Wai

From his slick Hong Kong style noir, Fallen Angels, to his recent, critically
acclaimed In the Mood for Love, director Wong Kar Wai has commanded the respect
and adulation of an international film audience. Wong has been touted as one
the most exciting young director of this generation but relatively little
scholarly work in English has been generated about his oeuvre.

This panel aims to provoke critical thinking and to engage the films of Wong Kar
Wai in an academic arena. NEMLA's 2002 annual conference, held concurrent with
the Toronto Film Festival, is the perfect opportunity to begin a long overdue
dialogue about Wong's films and the nature of his work.

Papers addressing any aspect of Wong Kar Wai's films are welcome.

Please submit 250-500 word abstracts to Carmen Nge by September 15th, 2001.

E-mailed submissions are preferred, and can be sent to nge@brandeis.edu. Please
mail hard copies to 28 Nashua Street, Apt. 3, Somerville, MA 02145.

Deadline for submissions: September 15, 2001

All submissions will hear a response by October 1st. Please feel free to e-mail
    me any questions.
