    CALL FOR PAPERS

For a special session on the "POLITICS OF AMERICAN POETRY"

for the joint meeting of the PCA/ACA, MARCH 13-16, 2002, SHERATON CENTRE,
    TORONTO, CANADA

Proposal for papers on any topic dealing with American poetry and its
political questions are invited for submission to the area chair for the
    ACA, "Literature and Politics" sessions.

I am looking for papers which address the political issues related to
American poetry over the last century, including, by not limited to, voices
of the labor movement in the early 20th century, women poets' places in the
American canon, the politics of the Beat generation (and/or its current
political status), the recent political issues of marginalization of
contemporary poetic factions (such as Language poetry, experimental poetics,
gender- and culturally-defined poetries, etc.), the establishment of
schools, the politics of presses, contests and grants, and all other issues
of a political nature related to American poetry. I am particularly
interested in papers that address the current tastes in American poetry, and
their relation to past efforts, both revolutionary and reactionary.

The session will be one of the "Literature and Politics" panels for the 2002
    ACA meeting.

The 2002 Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association joint
meeting will be held at the Sheraton Centre, Toronto, Canada on March 13-16,
    2002.
