From the Page, to the Stage, and to the Screen: New Directions for
Twentieth-Century Canonical Playwrights
This panel is co-sponsored by NEMLA with the American Theatre and Drama
Association (ATDS)
The purpose of this session is to investigate and to discuss new theoretical
and/or pedagogical directions in reading, writing, and teaching canonical
playwrights of the twentieth-century. Papers/abstracts examining the plays
and screen adaptations of the following will be considered:
Arthur Miller
Edward Albee
Tennessee Williams
Eugene O'Neill
Lillian Hellman
David Mamet
August Wilson
Lorraine Hansberry
Also, any discussion of screen adaptations of contemporary drama (Guare,
McNalley, Henley) will be considered.
