Call for Papers: SWPCA 2002 in Albuquerque

The Southwest/Texas Popular Culture and American Culture Associations are
calling for papers on the American Civil War (War Between the States) and
Reconstruction for its annual meeting, February 13-17, 2002 at the
Albuquerque Hilton in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Paper topics may examine
any aspect of how the Civil War and Reconstruction have influenced, or
been influenced by, any aspect of American popular culture, including such
diverse topics as literature, film, battle reenactments, women's narratives
 and other gender studies, folk history and remembrance, veterans' issues,
the rhetoric of monuments, racial politics and Black regiments, Abraham
Lincoln, African-American narratives, music and popular poetry, and
personal histories. Each presenter receives between fifteen and twenty
minutes, depending on the number of papers in each panel. Graduate
students are especially welcome to submit proposals. Panel proposals will
also be considered. Please send a 250-word abstract to: Dr. Randal
