13th Annual Southwest Symposium-
Thinking Where We Live, Living Where We Think

The Southwest Symposium, an interdisciplinary conference sponsored by
graduate students from the University of New Mexico English Department,
invites you to submit an abstract for the March 1-March 3, 2002
conference.

We encourage participation from any discipline including (but not limited
to) English, fine arts, anthropology, cultural studies, creative writing,
film and history of the West. This year, we will feature a broad range of
topics that emphasize how place of study reinforces/diverges from the
subject of inquiry (studying Dickens in the Desert Southwest, Native
American culture in the Big City, revolution in a time of peace, etc.).

Creative Works are also welcome.

We welcome individual proposals; however, because of the interdisciplinary
nature of the conference, we will give preference to panel proposals of
three to four people.

All submissions will be chosen anonymously. Please submit an abstract of
no more than 250 words with a brief cover letter identifying your name,
address, and abstract title. Do not put your name or your university
affiliation on the abstract.

Please indicate if you would also like to be considered for inclusion in
the Southwest Symposium journal that will be distributed at the
conference. This is a yearly journal that features selected submissions of
conference participants

Deadline: December 1, 2001
