CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Holistic teaching and learning goes far beyond the traditional
acquisition of knowledge, skills, and even understanding. In-depth
learning involves cooperation, thinking creatively, critically
questioning, respecting diversity, and indeed opening to change and
self-transformation. Spirituality, long denied in the classroom, can be
an important ingredient in a truly holistic education that views
personal growth as a precondition for the transformation of our world.
By spirituality, we do not mean organized religion or rigid belief
systems, but rather attention to the inner self and the ability to
envision new paths for personal and social change.

Touched by the Spirit: Teaching and Learning in the New Millennium is
an anthology in progress that will reflect a new vision of teaching and
learning for the Twenty First Century. We invite submissions of stories
of concrete teaching ideas and classroom experiences that promote
spiritual awareness. Examples might be the use of silence or meditation
to intensify a learners inner search for understanding, activities that
promote trust and a sense of community, the use of cases to explore
ethical issues, classroom rituals and celebrations, opportunities for
deep listening, or lessons promoting joy. We envision this anthology as
a guide for teachers at all levels to use to holistically enhance
everyday classroom life. Deadline for submissions is October 30, 2001.
