CFP: Biography and Philosophy (9/12/01; PCA/ACA, 3/13/02-3/16/02)

I am organizing a panel on Biography and Philosophy for the upcoming
PCA/ACA conference in Toronto (March 13-16, 2002). The conference itself
will examine the connections between biography and popular culture, while
this panel will focus on the relationship, made acute in recent
scholarship, between philosophy and biography.

Papers should be about 15 minutes in length, and should focus on a single
philosopher whose work reveals the difficulty of drawing a clear line
between the biographical subject and the philosopher. While an argument
could be made that this is always a difficult task, some recent figures
have brought the relationship between the two discourses to a critical
point. Papers on Benjamin, Foucault, Heidegger, and Paul de Man are
especially welcomed, but prospective panelists need not confine themselves
to these writers.

Please send me your proposal (one page in length) by Sept. 12:
