CALL FOR PAPERS: HORROR

2002 Southwest/Texas Regional Meeting of the Popular Culture and American
Culture Association in Albuquerque, New Mexico

The area chair for Horror of the Southwest/Texas Popular Culture and
American Culture Association invites all interested scholars to submit
papers on any aspect of horror in literature, film, television, or general
culture for the regional meeting of the Southwest/Texas PCA/ACA to be held
at the Albuquerque Hilton Hotel in Albuquerque, New Mexico, between
February 13 and 17, 2002.

Encouraged are fresh approaches to familar texts and topics, from
Hitchcock to Cronenberg, from Poe to Stoker, from monstrous females to
serial killers, from the uncanny to abjection. Especially encouraged are
submissions regarding horror films from countries other than the US, such
as Japan (Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Cure or Takeshi Miike's
Audition), France (Mathieu Kassovitz’s The Crimson Rivers),
Korea (Chang Yoon-hyun’s Tell Me Something), Germany (Stefan
Ruzowitzky's Anatomie), Austria (Michael Haneke's Funny
Games), etc.

If you are interested in being a presenter, please send an abstract of not
more than 300 words for a paper of 15 to 20 minutes reading time via
e-mail. Please provide contact information, such as name, mailing address,
phone number, and especially e-mail address.

If you want to propose a panel of three speakers, four speakers, or three
speakers and one respondent, please include the following information:
panel title; name and contact information of the panel chair; a 300 word
abstract for each paper included; contact information for each presenter.

The deadline for abstract and panel submissions is November 15, 2000.

Please specify as soon as possible whether your presentation requires a TV, VCR, slide projector, and/or screen. No other equipment is available. If you would like to present on a specific day or at a specific time, please let me know as early as possible. I will forward your request to the schedulers, who will accommodate you if possible.
