for the MELUS 16th Annual Conference, April 11-14, 2002
Proposals Deadline: September 24, 2001
I am looking for paper proposals exploring inter-ethnic relationship and
aspects in contemporary Asian American literature. This panel focuses on
inter-ethnic relationship, in particular, between or among people of
different Asian descents in America(s), or between Asian Americans and
another ethnic minority (e.g. African American, Jewish American, Latino/a
American and Native American). Papers may either investigate the
inter-ethnic, inter-racial or inter-cultural relationship, or discuss
pedagogical strategies of treating this subject matter. Papers may focus on
any number of texts or authors. Possible topics include stereotype, racism,
orientalism, exoticism, miscegenation, segregation, border crossing,
transgression, community, locality, language, dwelling, food, religion, etc.
