"PERFORMANCE AND THE ROMANCE MANUSCRIPT: SESSION II"

This session sponsored by the International Courtly Literature Society
invites papers addressing the ways in which performance effects are
engendered in romance manuscripts. Priority will be given to papers
devoted to chivalric romances, but those concerned with lyrico-
narrative works such as the "Roman de la Rose" will also be considered.
Topics may include, but are not limited to: lyric insertions in
narrative texts, illumination, mise en page, scribal performance,
compilation as performance, marginal images of performance, costume and
heraldry, public reading, dance, banquets, tournaments, and direct
discourse.

Papers should not exceed twenty minutes reading time.

Send abstracts of 200 to 300 words no later than September 15th, 2001
