On The Sheets: Romance Fiction

Annual Regional Conference
February 13-17, 2002
Albuquerque, New Mexico
Romance novels constitute 58.2% of popular paperback fiction purchased in
the United States, generating $1.35 billion in annual sales. More than 41
million people in the United States read them.
Panelists and individual papers are invited to examine the popular culture
of romance writers & romance writing for the association's annual regional
conference. This conference will provide you with a wonderful opportunity
to share scholarly interests and to gain insights into romance novels and
writers with other academics and interested individuals.
Once again, we are specifically looking for individual paper proposals
and/or submissions for entire panels about this unique genre of fiction.
Topics might include, but are certainly not limited to, issues such as
gender, subversion, sex and sex roles, genre, myth, social expectations,
ideal female/male representations, virtues, values, culture, power,
archetypes, transcendence, conformity, the body, history, technology, love,
the hero and heroine, social aspects, ethnic roles, and conventions.
Those interested in presenting a paper at this conference should send a
100-word abstract (or 300 word paper proposal) to the area chair via mail
or e-mail no later than November 15, 2001. You should also include a brief
biographical sketch and short bibliography, if possible.

Final decisions regarding panelists will be made by December 3, 2001.
The SW/Texas PCA/ACA accepts scholarly papers from academics, students,
professionals. Those with no academic affiliation are also encouraged to
submit proposals for presentation. Presenters are limited to giving one
paper given at this conference. When presented, papers should run no longer
than 15-20 minutes. The organization should meet your required audio visual
needs. All presenters must join the one of the two associations.
