    CALL FOR PAPERS:

    "The New Old 'New': Modernity/Postmodernity/Post-Post-Modernity"

Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE), San Diego, July 25-28, 2002

    In keeping with ATHE's '02 Conference theme ("Re-imagining Ourselves...in
the 21st Century"), this proposed Theory and Criticism Focus Group panel
will conjoin larger aspects of drama, theatre, and/or performance to
notions of "the new," modern-ities and/or -isms.

Panelists will explore theoretical issues surrounding notions of the "new,"
the "modern," the "postmodern," etc., as they have been defined, employed,
pastiched, and/or defied in the drama, theatre, and/or performance of the
past century. Panelists might also address current dramatic, theatrical,
and/or performative models we might look to for upcoming structural shifts
"after" or "post-" "postmodernity." Both theoretically-informed analyses
of specific works and movements and more general theoretical investigations
    are welcomed.

The Focus Group welcomes papers from both established and emerging scholars
and theatre practitioners, including graduate students. All
academically-based US participants are asked to become ATHE members once
the panel is accepted. For more information on ATHE and the conference,
    please see http://www.athe.org.

The deadline for submissions is October 15, 2001.

Please e-mail all queries and submissions to: s.i.salamensky@williams.edu.
