CALL FOR PAPERS: "Performing Interdisciplinarity"
ASSOCIATION FOR THEATRE IN HIGHER EDUCATION
SAN DIEGO, 25-28 JULY 2002
In this panel, pariticipants will discuss their ideas on collaborations
between "traditional" scholarly departments (e.g., English, History, Drama)
and performance departments. I invite participants to share their
pedagogies--whether experienced, theorized, or both--for departmental
"cross-fertilization" and the teaching of American theatre.
Some questions to consider:
How have you designed interdisciplinary courses featuring literary/historical
as well as performance elements? What responses have you had fromyour
institution? students? What current relationship do you perceive between
"traditional" English and/or History departments and Theatre or Performance
Studies departments? In designing an interdisciplinary theatre course, how
have you shaped curricular goals? Delegated responsibilities? Alotted
classtime? How might you evaluate the relative success or failure of your
course?
Papers may range from heavily theoretical to heavily
pedagogical/experiential, or any mix in between. I am hoping this panel will
help scholars and teachers from a variety of departments to dialogue about
how they can benefit from collaboration. Specific interdisciplinary teaching
strategies are extremely welcome.
