    Contemporary American Literature
    Deadline for submissions: November 1, 2001

    The 7th Annual GES Conference will be held February 22-23, 2002 at Texas
    Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. The theme of this year's conference,
    "Past and Future Perspectives: Negotiating our Changing Field,"
    addresses our changing field from the graduate scholar's perspective.
    The palindrome of the year suggests examination of ways our past can
    help us deal with our future regarding issues arising from new theories,
    cultural shifts, evolving technologies, and recent discoveries.

    While I am especially interested in submissions which deal with aspects
    of the following suggested topics, abstracts dealing with any
    Contemporary American Literature topic are welcome and will be
    considered:

    1) Narrative and Language Theory: Trends and Perspectives;
    2) Cybernetic and Experimental Fiction: The Future is Now;
    3) Multi-Ethnic, Multi-Social, Multi-Cultural Literature: Negotiating
    Issues of Social and Cultural Identity

    In addition, abstracts/proposals dealing with other issues of
    Contemporary American Literature will be considered: Regional American
    Literature (Southwestern, Southern, etc.) that don't necessarily focus
    on ethnic issues; Modernist and Post-Modernist literature -- a new look;
    abstracts on individual authors in Contemporary American Literature.

    E-mail submissions are strongly encouraged; please put "GES Conference
    Proposal" in the subject line for all electronic submissions.
    Participants may present no more than two papers or be on no more than
    two panels.

    Abstracts/Proposals (250 words) and inquiries should be addressed to:
