    UPDATE: New deadline

The Television Series (Manchester University Press)
General Editors: Sarah Cardwell and Jonathan Bignell

We are seeking authors involved in teaching and/or researching
television to contribute to this new series of books on British
television fiction. Each volume will outline the body of work produced
by an individual television practitioner (mostly screenwriters, but also
directors, producers, designers, etc.), and provide an authoritative and
accessible guide to critical study of his or her significant works,
outlining persuasively yet objectively the practitioner's contribution
to British television over the years. Each volume will contain case
studies of several of the practitioner's most significant works,
offering interpretation and analyses of them. Additionally, each book
will show how appropriate critical approaches can be applied to actual
programmes. The volumes will provide accounts of and excerpts from
original sources, including (where possible) interviews with the
practitioner conducted specially for the volume, and will list relevant
bibliographic material and further reading. The series offers the
opportunity to address the work of well-known and lesser-known writers
    and practitioners.

We envisage that the word-length of books in the series will vary
according to the number and significance of the practitioner's
contributions. A minimum length of 55,000 words and a maximum of 80,000
is expected. We would be grateful if prospective authors would indicate
in their proposals the length they believe is required, with reasons for
their suggested length. Each book will contain a minimum of five
    illustrations.

We are currently seeking proposals for books to be completed by Autumn
    2003.

Please send proposals or direct enquiries to
