Call for Proposals
Composition and Rhetoric
Southwest/Texas PCA/ACA
Albuquerque, NM
13-17 February 2002
www.swtexaspca.org
Deadline: 10 December 2001
Rhetoric and culture are inextricably bound up in one another. Indeed,
they seem to exist
in a field of resonance, each continually creating, shaping, and
recreating the other.
This being the case, we invite papers exploring the interconnectedness
of culture and
rhetoric/composition. We encourage an interpretation of each of these
terms that is as
broad as possible, and there is no preference for any one methodological
approach to these
terms and their topics.
Possible topics include (but are by no means limited to):
- Exploration of the relationship between rhetoric and culture
(historical, contemporary, etc.)
- Theories of cultural rhetoric(s)
- Rhetorical practices in popular culture
- Speech rhetorics in the culture of democracy
- Rhetoric(s) of mass journalism/communication/media
- Cultural Studies/Pop Culture pedagogies and tools for composition studies
- Composition/Public Speaking (and collegiate instruction therein) as a
cultural practice
- Rhetoric(s) of religion
- Propaganda
This list is not exhaustive. Proposals dealing with the intersection of
rhetoric,
composition, and culture--in whatever way these terms are constructed
and in whatever way
that intersection is constructed--are welcome.
