This CFP is for a special panel for the Rocky Mountain
Medieval and Renaissance Association Conference to be
held in Las Vegas on 5/23/02-5/25/02.

I seek papers for a panel called “Revisiting the Past:
Morality Plays.” It will focus on early modern
morality plays such as “Everyman,” “Mankind,”
“Wisdom,” and “The Castle of Perseverance” from the
medieval period, and plays such as “The Interlude of
Youth,” “The Tide Tarrieth No Man,” “Enough is as Good
as a Feast,” and other Tudor interludes from the
    Renaissance.

These are all very interesting plays often taught as
having a place in the development of English drama,
but they never garner the attention of the Cycle plays
in medieval courses or works by such authors as Kyd,
Marlowe, Shakespeare, and other giants in Renaissance
    courses.

By this panel, I hope to foster discussion of a
variety of issues. Some possibilities include the
quality of these plays, how to stage these plays,
students’ responses to the plays, and, most
importantly, whether the moral outlook of the plays is
    so vastly different than today’s.
