The Illusory
Graduate Student Colloquium April 5th and 6th, 2002
An object has no absolute form. It has several [...]. Juan Gris
assertion encourages us to reevaluate our natural tendency toward the
understanding of our environment and ourselves through the concrete
classification of the various elements which constitute our
existence. In spite of our attempts to position everything within a
referential framework familiar to all, there remain some elements which
refuse concrete classification. What are these fugitive elements? How do
they manifest themselves in literature, art and other fields? It is this
desire to represent and interpret that which is illusory which will serve
as the foundation for this colloquium to be held 5-6 April 2002. We invite
graduate students in relevant disciplines to contemplate these questions
and to submit proposals for communications of 20 minutes in
length. Papers will be accepted in both French and English and may also
discuss topics such as the transgression of logic, the violation of
stylistic and linguistic laws as well as theoretical analyses of the
illusory. Additionally, we encourage submissions for communications of 10
minutes for our Aartistic session,@ a session inspired by the theme of the
colloquium where participants may present original dramatic, musical,
poetic or artistic works.
Proposals for communications (maximum 250 words) should be submitted by
