    CALL FOR PAPERS

    A Moveable Feast?
Translation of Literary, Cultural, and Political Capital
    Modern Languages Graduate Colloquium
    The Catholic University of America
    Saturday, April 6, 2002

National literature is now a rather meaningless term
            -Goethe

For its Annual Colloquium, the Department of Modern Languages and
Literatures at the Catholic University of America is soliciting abstracts
dealing with the circulation, translation, and displacement of cultural
and literary capital. We especially welcome proposals exploring
globalizations and the fatidic question "What does globalization mean for
literary, cultural, linguistic studies?" Proposals might include, but
    should not be limited to:

    Millennialism-Global Anxieties-Inclusion/Exclusion-Metaphor-
    Adaptation-Migration-Nostalgia-Translation-Militants/Terrorists-Hybridity-
    Exile-Desire/Gratification-Tourism-Economies of Circulation-Food-
    Consumption/Consumerism-Transatlanticisms-Revisionism-Cannibalism-
    Linguistic Minorities-Identity Politics-Rewritings-Exoticisms

Please submit a 200-word abstract in English with title and a brief
    vitae to:
