    We invite proposals for a panel, Twentieth Century Heroines: Issues of
    Displacement. Papers may address any concerns dealing with women's
    displacement in modern or post-modern literary texts. These concerns may
    encompass the physical, emotional, political, self-imposed or inflicted
    aspects of hybrid identities, which often emerge when a character must
    negotiate between her native culture and one that she is forced by
    circumstances to accommodate. The inner conflicts which then develop are
    frequently the result of the displacements caused, for example, by
    globalization, immigration, or deportation. Topics might range from
    explorations of the female characters in modernist fiction to analyses of
    post-modern heroines in stories of immigration and alienation.
