CFP: The "Mirror" in English Literature Before 1800 (3/1/02; MMLA '02,
    11/8-10/02)

"Mirror Scenes": Reflections on Art and the Self.

How does "the mirror" serve as a figure for defining both aesthetics and
identity? Papers may address methods of reading early modern texts through the
"mirror" (such as the critical theories of Plato of Lacan)as well as addressing
    texts which contain "mirror scenes."

Papers are requested for the English I: English Literature Before 1800 Panel at
the 2002 Annual Convention of the Midwest MLA. Please send abstracts of
approximately 500 words by April 1 to Eric LeMay, English Department, 215
University Hall, Northwestern Univ., 1897 Sheridan Road, Evanston, IL 60201.
