CFP: "Charles Johnson and History" (proposed panel, MLA 27-30 December,
2002)
Papers and abstracts are invited for a panel on Johnson's work in relation
to specific histories, problems of historiography, and aspects of American
literary history. Some possible topics might include (but are certainly not
limited to) the following:
Johnson's Deconstruction of Martin Luther King in Dreamer
The Politics of Representation in and after the 1960s
Middle Passage Twelve Years Later
History, Authenticity, and Black
Historiographic Metafiction
Intertextuality and History in Oxherding Tale
Accuracy, Prophecy and Accident in the Historical Novel
Johnson and the American Literary Canon
