CFP: Communications Research in Networked Communities (2/11/02;
NCA, 11/21/02-11/24/02)
Papers sought for a proposed panel on " Communications Research in
Networked Communities " for the 2002 National Communications
Association (NCA) Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana-November
21-124 2002.
This panel will focus on new or adaptations of research methods for
use in on-line communities including: e-mail, newsgroup, WWW sites,
Web-cam, FTP, chat-room, IRC, MP3 trading, pedagogical applications
of network media, or other on-line forms of interactive communities.
Such communities might be based on: shared professional, ethnic,
geographic, religious, health, self-help, or popular (or
not-so-popular) cultural and social interests.
Papers might address theoretical, ethical, practical, or case-study
approaches to research in on-line communities. Particular emphasis
should be on how current methods have been or need to be adjusted for
use in on-line environments including but not limited to:
qualitative and quantitative approaches, rhetorical methods,
discourse analysis, ethnography, survey data, web-site tracking, or
user tracking.
Any other topic related to research in networked communication will
also be considered.

Please include: complete identification (name, affiliation, address,
phone/fax number and e-mail address of participant), a 50 to 75-word
abstract of paper or presenter's topic, a 100 - 500 word abstract,
and all audio-visual requests.
