For a proposed special session at MLA 2002, I am looking for papers that
address themselves to the representation of wildlife--birds, bees and
other creatures--in nineteenth century American poetry. The panel seeks
to elucidate how lyric voice in the 19th century is transformed by poems
that bridge the divide between human and non-human forms of
    consciousness, sentiment, and ontology.
