Essay Collection Geomodernisms: 'Race,' Modernism, Modernity
This collection seeks a select group of essays that interpret modernism as
one phenomenon of an uneven modernity, that is, a modernism emerging at
different times and places within such contradictory forces as technology,
diaspora, global capitalism, nationalism, and poly-lingualism. We are
especially seeking essays that probe the interlocking of cultural
aesthetics and geo-politics, taking into consideration the local and global
    dimensions of a particular modernism.

Above all, we solicit essays that fruitfully reconfigure modernism's key
sites, definitions, and periodization. We conceive of a landmark volume
that illuminates the implications of recent work in race, colonialism, and
modernity for modernist studies and signals new directions for the future.

Our deadline for abstracts, accompanied by a CV, is March 18th. Abstracts
should be 1-2 pages single spaced, preferably in NYT Roman 12" font, and
should be either mailed or emailed to Laura Winkiel at the address below.
We hope to receive final essays by September 1st.
