Papers are invited for a proposed special session at MLA 2002 titled
"Colonizing Childhood in the U.S.: Problems and Contexts."

This panel seeks to explore how writers, from the colonial era to the
present day, have co-opted American childhood to explore racial, religious
and ethnic anxieties. Papers considering how rhetorical depictions of
nation-as-child shape--or are shaped by--material conditions of American
    childhood are particularly welcome.

Please send 1-2 page abstracts by March 25th to
    Anna Mae Duane
    72 West 105th St. 4B
New York, NY 10025 or via email to duane@fordham.edu
