ROMANTIC JOURNEYS AND DISCOVERIES
You are invited to submit an abstract of no more than 250 words for a paper
to be presented at the annual meeting of the American Conference on
Romanticism on the lush, green, semitropical campus of The Florida State
University. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is April 30, 2002. We
welcome submissions focusing upon the Romantic movement in various
countries, languages, and expressions from literature to painting and music.
The conference is scheduled for October 10-13 at the Turnbull Conference
Center.
The theme of the conference will be Romantic Journeys and Discoveries, but
papers are also invited on a wide range of related topics including, but
not limited to, Romantic Boundaries and Borders, Romanticism and Memory,
Romantic Constructions of Self and the Other, Romanticism and
Transgression, Romantic Nostalgia, Romantic Adventure and Gender, and
Romantic Imperialism.
Our plenary speaker will be Susan Wolfson from Princeton University. She
will speak on "Gazing on Byron: Fascination and Separation." Professor
Wolfson is the author of The Questioning Presence: Wordsworth, Keats, and
the Interrogative Mode in Romantic Poetry and Formal Charges: The Shaping
of Poetry in British Romanticism(Winner of the 1997 ACR Book Prize).
