    Call for papers

    Colloquium: Campbell in Context
    Date: 25-26 July 2002
    Venue: University of Durban-Westville, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South
    Africa

    Roy Campbell remains one of South Africa’s best known poets. 2001 was
    the centenary of Roy Campbell’s birth. Prompted by this, the School of
    Languages and Literature, University of Durban-Westville, will host an
    inter-disciplinary colloquium on Campbell, in the city of his birth. It
    is intended that the scope will be wide ranging, with papers addressing
    issues pertinent to his diverse oeuvre, as well as the contexts within
    which he worked.

    Possible topics include (but are not restricted to):
    * Campbell’s influence on South African literature
    * Voorslag and the Natal experience
    * The role of the Campbell family in Durban
    * Campbell and the Bloomsbury group
    * Campbell’s Europe
    * Campbell’s politics
    * Campbell’s religious poetry
    * Campbell’s translations
    * Biographies and plays on Campbell

    Abstracts of 250 words should be submitted (by e-mail or fax) by 30
    April 2002.

    After the colloquium the convenors intend to compile a volume of essays
    comprising selected papers. Participants will be requested to submit
    their papers by June 30, 2002.
