    Deadline extended for submissions to an essay collection on Edith Wharton
    and Material Culture. A major university press has expressed interest in
    the collection. The original CFP follows below:

    Edith Wharton and Material Culture: Submissions are invited for a
    collection of essays exploring the significance of material culture in all
    aspects of Wharton's life and work. How does Wharton's life and work
    demonstrate the link between the construction of social
    identities/relationships and the production and use of material objects?
    Contributors may also consider the question of what we gain and/or lose in
    Wharton criticism by emphasizing material culture. Send completed essays
    (20-25 pages in length) by 7 June 2002 to:
