Call for Papers for 2002 EAPSU Conference

Local Colors: Contextualizing Teaching, Reading, and Writing

Slippery Rock University

October 10 - 11, 2002

Final Deadline for Submissions: August 15, 2002

The 2002 EAPSU Conference will explore the function of place in
constructing our identities and our creative, scholarly, and pedagogical
endeavors. Writer and Pennsylvania resident Randall Silvis will address
the conference on Thursday, October 10.

We invite proposals from faculty and students for presentations,
roundtable discussions, and workshops that address our teaching and
research in the English Department, Writing Center, Writing Across the
Curriculum, Composition and Rhetoric, Literature, Professional and
Technical Writing, Creative Writing, and Cultural Studies. Possible
topics include:

curriculum design and course content

effective teaching practices and pedagogical strategies

effective practices in English Departments and Writing Centers

literary interpretations/critical analyses of literature

contextualizing assessment, evaluation, and placement

interdisciplinary programs that focus on place and/or identity

diversity, place, and constructions of identity, including roles of
race, class, and gender

situated evaluations of technology

original works of prose, poetry, creative non-fiction, or drama,
particularly those emphasizing place and identity

service-learning or other outreach programs

topics of interest to fellow faculty and students across Pennsylvania.

We also invite suggestions for special interest roundtable discussions
and Pedagogy "Show and Share" tables. Possible topics for the special
interest roundtables include technology, women's studies, race/ethnicity
and diversity, writing center administration, assessment of first-year
writing, assessment of major programs, creative writing, professional
writing, department administration, new faculty, EAPSU, APSCUF, Sigma
Tau Delta, and departmental publications including literary magazines.
New faculty are especially encouraged to suggest topics and participate
in the roundtable and Pedagogy "Show and Share" sessions.

The final deadline for proposal submissions has been extended to August
15, 2002. Please submit one-page proposals for presentations or panel
sessions or brief statements of interest in leading or participating in
roundtable or pedagogy discussions to:
