Contributions are being sought for a collection of essays on approaches =
to teaching Dead Man Walking by Sr. Helen Prejean. College and high =
school instructors who have used Dead Man Walking in their courses are =
encouraged to submit completed drafts of essays which describe their =
methods and approaches. Ideally, essays will appeal to teachers at both =
levels as well as others who may be interested in the book or the issue =
of capital punishment generally. Since teachers are the primary =
audience, practical suggestions, tips, experiences, discoveries, etc. =
are important. Authors are also welcome to submit essays which discuss =
how critical, literary, or pedagogical theory informs their use of Dead =
Man Walking in the classroom.=20
Sr. Helen Prejean and her organization The Moratorium Campaign have =
agreed to lend their names and support to this project. Therefore, =
national publishers will be solicited to produce and distribute the =
book, although a publisher has not been secured at this time. If your =
essay is accepted, you may be asked to reformat it to conform to the =
publisher's guidelines. Any standard format is acceptable for the =
initial submission (though MLA guidelines are preferred). Approximate =
length: 8 to 12 pages.
Due date: December 15, 2002.
The following topics are meant to be suggestive only. Any topic or =
approach is welcome.
