The Pearl-Poet Society is sponsoring the following session at the
38th International Congress on Medieval Studies, 8-11 May 2003

"Deceit and Desire in the Pearl-Poems"
One may wish to consider how one or more of the poems found in MS Cotton =
Nero A.x treat various moments of deceit and desire to help establish =
character and relationships. Are deceit and desire inherently bad? How =
do the poems narrate the origin of desire, and how do various characters =
utilize deceit? We invite various theoretical approaches from scholars =
of all levels-from graduate student to senior academic.
Please submit a one-page abstract (and please include complete contact =
information).
Papers are to be no more than 20 minutes, and the deadline for =
submissions is September 15, 2002. Submissions and inquiries may be sent =
