CFP: Messages and Messengers in the Pearl-Poems (9/15/02; Kalamazoo, 5/8/03-5/11/03)

The Pearl-Poet Society is sponsoring the following session at the
38th International Congress on Medieval Studies, 8-11 May 2003
Western Michigan University
Kalamazoo, Michigan

"Messages and Messengers in the Pearl-Poems"

We seek papers that explore the relationship between message, messenger, =
and audience in one or more of the four poems of MS Cotton Nero A.X. Is =
the message sent always the message received? One may also consider the =
ways in which the messenger obscures the message or vice versa. We =
invite various theoretical approaches from scholars of all levels-from =
graduate student to senior academic.

Please submit a one-page abstract (and please include complete contact =
information).

Papers are to be no more than 20 minutes, and the deadline for =
submissions is September 15, 2002. Submissions and inquiries may be sent =
