The Pearl-Poet Society is sponsoring the following session at the
38th International Congress on Medieval Studies, 8-11 May 2003

"The Domestic and the Dysfunctional Family in the Pearl-Poems"
How is the family (immediate or extended) portrayed in one or more of =
the poems of MS Cotton Nero A.x? What impressions about domestic life in =
fourteenth-century England do the Pearl-Poems create? How is a "stable" =
family different from a "dysfunctional" one? How does the domestic =
sphere function in the poems? We invite various theoretical approaches =
from scholars of all levels-from graduate student to senior academic.
Please submit a one-page abstract (and please include complete contact =
information).
Papers are to be no more than 20 minutes, and the deadline for =
submissions is September 15, 2002. Submissions and inquiries may be sent =
