CFP: RELIGION AND POPULAR CULTURE

ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTHWEST / TEXAS POPULAR CULTURE ASSOCIATION
&AMERICAN CULTURE ASSOCIATION

Feb. 12-15, 2003, Albuquerque Hilton, Albuquerque, New Mexico

www.swtexaspca.org

Deadline for proposals: Nov. 30, 2002

The Southwest / Texas branch of the ACA/PCA announces a call for proposals
for papers on popular culture and religion to be presented at its annual
meeting in February 2003 in Albuquerque. Papers should be approximately
20-25 minutes long. Proposals should be no longer than 500 words. Days and
times of sessions to be determined.

Proposals are invited from a broad range of perspectives. Yoga, quilting,
football, hot rods, hip hop, consumerism, Mary Stewart, militarism,
Christianity - all forms of religion are open for discussion. Papers on
religion in the Southwest would be particularly appreciated.

The variety of topics and themes is considerable and may include but is not
limited to:

- The place of women in American civil religion.

- Perspectives on Native American religion in movies/art/novels.

- The Bible (or some part thereof) and the Internet.

- The marketing of Southern Gospel music.

- The cross and The Bomb.

- Buddhism meets Bubbaism.

- Sports and/in/as religion

The above list is meant to be suggestive rather than exhaustive. We are
aiming for variety and cross-disciplinary dialogue rather than narrowly
focused discussions.
